So, The Delux Magazine Launch Party at The Sugar Lounge was everything I thought it would be. The who's who of St. Louis came out and celebrated together, but somehow, things always seem to go wrong when I am around.
First off, this was the first time in a long time that I went to a party and showed up on time, just to hear the door guy tell me "we aren't open yet". So to kill time we had to go get a drink at The Sidebar, which by the way, the band that was playing there was killing it. I didn't get their name cause they usually don't play together. So we walk back to Sugar and the two skip-skaps working the door needed a crash course in hospitality! They asked me for my name, gave me a wristband, then realized I wasn't on the list? Lucky for them, I don;t need to be on a fucking list to be VIP, I just am! On top of that, if you are working the door at a club, you shouldn't even have a list, when its a FREE PARTY!!! EVERYBODY IS VIP!
Moving on, THE VIP SECTION WAS LAME as well as the club side of the lounge!! The people there were okay, but it wasn't anything goin on spectacular all thanx to DJ placement!
Reese is cool, and I know the vidjaying is the new thing, but how you gonna throw a party with all the Nappy Kids in the building and stick Needles in the corner? Needles tore the place down. One of the best mixes I have heard all summer!! Barnone.
Just when I think things can't get any more janky, the place hit capacity, meanwhile my boys are standing outside. I had to send in reinforcements, a.k.a. Ms Facebook, to pull out her L.A. Diva Card to get 'em in. The door guy must've been new, he had no clue what to do in a crisis situation.
Besides those few minor setbacks, the party was official. Live art, great music, cheap drinks, free admission, and some of the best people in the city. This 4th of July weekend started off grand. Shouts to Delux Mag, mademonarchs.com, I AM...SNKY, The Nappy Kids, Rich City, and everybody else that was in the building. The Summer is ours... Black...out...
